To ensure your artificial playing surface is performing to a safe standard and not returning excessive forces upon users then a gmax test would be necessary. Gmax testing measures the shock attenuation of the surface, using a 20lb missile to replicate the impact generated by a players torso we can measure the forces involved. ASTM require the surface to be soft enough (below 200g’s) to absorb sufficient impact to protect the players from injuries/concussions.
