Gmax (Shock attenuation) testing in Cocoa Beach, Florida

When a player falls and impacts with the surface, this impact is absorbed by either the player or the surface. Gmax testing ensures the surface is of high enough quality to absorb sufficient impact, thus minimising the likelihood of impact related injury.

Using a 20lb cylindrical missile, Surface Performance’ technicians measure the hardness of the field to ASTM F355. This shows the magnitude of force the specific surface would return on a player upon impact.

If a surface does not comply with ASTM Standard F1936 then remediation works may be required.
