Gmax testing uses a 20lb, cylindrical weight, dropped from 24inches to measure how many G’s of force a surface can absorb upon impact and how many are therefore returned to the athlete. Surface Performance Ltd accredited engineers carry out Gmax testing to ASTM Standard F355-A which state that any field with a Gmax rating over over 200G’s is deemed unsafe for use. Ultimately, the higher the Gmax result, the higher the impact and therefore increased likelihood of injury to the user of the surface.

Gmax testing is designed to replicate the impact of a players torso. Surface Performance Ltd utilise the HIC test which is the internationally recognised test for head injuries.
