Gmax testing is recognised throughout the USA as a fundamental safety test to ensure the playing surface is fit for use.

Surface Performance use a specialist ASTM F355 A-Missile Measurement Tester to calculate the gmax rating. There is a accelerometer inside the 20lb missile, upon impact it measures the impact attenuation of the playing surface. This measures the force absorbed by the surface and what is returned to the player.

Due to the importance of the test coupled with the numerous factors that can change and affect that qualities of the surface, it is recommended that testing be carried out twice per year.
