Gmax testing simply measures two things, absorption and impact. A 20lb missile is dropped in 10 set locations on the field, three drops per location. The missile measure G forces upon impact which provides Gmax values for the surface. These Gmax values relate to the force exerted on a player during impact with the surface. For a surface to be deemed safe it must be within the limits set by ASTM F355.
