When a player impacts with the playing surface, force is absorbed by either the player or the surface. Gmax testing ensures the surface is of high enough quality to absorb sufficient impact, thus minimising the impact exerted on the player. ASTM require that no gmax rating be higher than 200g’s, if a pitch fails to pass this standard then remediation works would be required.

Gmax testing should be carried out bi-annually to ensure surface conditions and player safety are closely monitored.
