Gmax & HIC (Head Impact Criterion) testing are designed to replicate impact to the surface from a players torso or head. The testing reflects the magnitude of force a surface returns to the player, this correlates with the level of risk of injury or concussion a surface poses.

A number of factors contribute to the gmax rating of a field, these factors can change with the age of the field. It is therefore recommended to have gmax & HIC testing carried out biannually.
