Gmax & HIC (Head Impact Criterion) testing have become the most widely recognized tests in respect to player safety. They are designed to replicate the force exerted on the surface by a players torso and head and, in turn, measure the magnitude of force returned by the surface. If this returned force is too great (gmax rating +200g’s) then the pitch would be deemed unsafe for use according to ASTM F1936.

Gmax & HIC testing should be carried out at least biannually to effectively maintain and monitor surface condition and player safety.
