Many factors contribute to the Gmax rating on a playing surface. These factors can quickly change making a surface unsafe for use. It is therefore recommended to carry out Gmax testing at least twice per year.
The Gmax of a field is calculated by dropping a calibrated A-Missile in 10 set locations across the field. It is dropped 3 times per location and an average is calculated using the final two drops. No test location should have a gmax rating of over 200g’s. If a field does not meet ASTM requirements then remediation would be required.
