Gmax testing has become a recognised test to demonstrate that artificial or natural surfaces are fit for use, and being maintained properly. The Gmax of a surface shows the impact attenuation of the surface. If this is too high, which reflects a hard surface with low impact attenuation, the likelihood of injury is higher.

Standards stipulate no surfaces should have Gmax results higher than 200g’s. Anything above this is deemed unsafe for use.
