Gmax testing measures the magnitude of force on the surface during impact. Surfaces with high Gmax results are harder surfaces, therefore absorb less force – subsequently there is more force for the player to absorb upon impact, increasing the risk of injury/concussion is increased. To be deemed safe, pitches must have a Gmax reading between 165g-200g as per ASTM F355.
