Impact testing, more commonly referred to as Gmax testing, measure the shock attenuation of sports surfaces. This test can be carried out on both artificial and natural playing surfaces. Gmax results must be lower than 200g’s. This is outlined in ASTM Standard F355-A and ASTM Specification F1936. Results higher than this indicate a surface’s impact attenuation is low, and therefore impact will be sustained by the user, thus increasing likelihood of injuries.
