When a player falls and impacts with the surface, this impact is absorbed by either the player or the surface. Gmax testing ensures the surface is of high enough quality to absorb sufficient impact, thus minimising the likelihood of injury. ASTM F355 & F1936 standards state that any surface with a gmax rating of over 200g’s is deemed too hard and therefore unsafe.

Gmax testing should be carried out annually to ensure player safety and surface condition is closely monitored.
