Gmax and HIC testing both measure the impact absorbed by a player upon impact with the playing surface. Gmax replicated a players torso whilst HIC (Head Impact Criterion) is the recognised test to simulate head impact. Higher test values show a harder surface which absorbs less impact therefore returning more force to the user, increase the likelihood of injury or concussion. A pitch with Gmax values higher then 200g’s is deemed unfit for use.
